Before a residence permit can be finalized, employers commonly ask new hires to supply an attested university degree, and depending on the role, other credentials or a police clearance certificate.

The attestation itself has to happen on the Canadian side, before you travel. Because these are civil documents, the details matter: names must match passports exactly, and certificates generally need to be the long-form versions issued by the province. Qatar is not a party to the Apostille Convention. Even though Canada now issues apostilles through Global Affairs Canada and several provinces, documents bound for Qatar still generally follow the traditional route: authentication in Canada first, then legalization at the Qatari embassy. An apostille on its own is normally not accepted.
