China Visa & Apostille Assistance from Canada
Visa Jet is a private document and travel support agency assisting clients across Canada with visa applications and document preparation for China. Work, family reunion, and business travel each carry distinct requirements, and recent changes to how China accepts foreign documents have simplified parts of the process. We are not a government office and cannot decide or guarantee any outcome.
Z, Q, and M: Matching the Visa to Your Purpose
Most applications we see from Canada fall into three streams. The Z visa covers employment in mainland China and is built on a work permit notification arranged by the Chinese employer, supported by documents from the applicant's side — typically a degree and a police clearance certificate. The Q visa serves family reunion, for those visiting or joining Chinese citizens or permanent residents, and leans on relationship documents such as marriage or birth certificates. The M visa covers commercial visits — trade fairs, supplier meetings, negotiations — and usually turns on an invitation letter from a Chinese business partner.
Visa Jet helps you identify the right stream, assemble the supporting documents each one expects, and present a consistent application. Where your file also needs certified Chinese translation, we coordinate that alongside the document work.
A Big Change: China Now Accepts Apostilles
For decades, Canadian documents for China needed the full consular legalization chain. That changed when China joined the Apostille Convention, in force since 7 November 2023 — and Canada followed as a member on 11 January 2024. The practical effect: mainland China now generally accepts apostilles on Canadian public documents, issued by Global Affairs Canada or by designated provincial authorities in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, and consular legalization is largely no longer required for mainland use.
That said, the transition is still settling in practice, and individual receiving authorities in China may have their own expectations, so we always confirm current requirements for your document type and destination before proceeding. Documents we commonly apostille for China include degrees and transcripts for Z visa work permits, police clearance certificates, and marriage or birth certificates for Q visa and family matters.
Building a Complete Application
Chinese visa applications are detail-heavy, and small inconsistencies — dates that disagree between the form and the invitation, a name spelled differently across documents — are a common source of returned files. Depending on your stream, a typical file includes:
- Valid passport with sufficient validity and blank pages
- Completed application form and compliant photo
- Work permit notification and apostilled degree and police check (Z)
- Kinship or relationship documents, apostilled where required (Q)
- Invitation letter from a Chinese company or trade partner (M)
- Proof of status in Canada and travel details

No. Visa Jet is a private agency and cannot guarantee visa approval, document acceptance, or processing times. Final decisions rest solely with the Chinese authorities and the relevant mission or visa centre. We prepare, review, and coordinate your application.
Generally no for mainland China. Since China's accession to the Apostille Convention took effect in November 2023, mainland authorities generally accept apostilles on Canadian public documents. Practice can vary by receiving authority, so we confirm current requirements before starting your file.
Global Affairs Canada apostilles federal documents, while Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan apostille documents issued or notarized in those provinces. We determine the correct competent authority for each of your documents.
Alongside the employer-arranged work permit notification, applicants commonly provide an apostilled university degree and an apostilled police clearance certificate, plus the application form and passport. We confirm the exact list for your case.
